Have you ever seen what the first version of the Garmin watch looks like? The Forerunner 101 was released in 2003. While it needed a new AAA battery to run after 15 hours of tracking and was a little clunky, this was just the starting point for Garmin watches. Since 2003, Garmin has created the Forerunner ... 201, 205, 301, 305, 50, 405, 60, 405CX, 310XT, 110, 210, 410, 610, 910XT, 70, 10, 220, 620, 15, 920XT, 225, 25, 230, 235, 630, 735XT, 35, 935, 30, 645, 645 Music, 45, 45S, 245, 245 Music, 945, 745, 55, 945 LTE, 255, 255 Music, 955, 955 Solar, 265 and 965. Garmin's desire to constantly improve and adapt is why the company is today a key innovator in sports technology. 📈 #Garmin #SportsTechnology Garmin Australia #SportsInnovation #Innovation

One Week in Boston: Highlights and Takeaways 🏔️ Clinical trials can come in many different forms: Dr Jack Kreindler shared one of the most adventurous examples —a 10-day Antarctic journey to the South Pole, exploring unique responses of male and female bodies in extreme conditions. (Count me in for patient recruitment on the next one!) 🌐 Engaging Patients: AbbVie and HealthMatch showed that when done purposefully, patients want to share insights. With the goal to democratize clinical trials, we should continuously utilize insights to understand how trials can better suit communities. 🚀 Embracing Failure in Science: Failure is a vital part of the scientific journey, leading to learning and important data gathering. 🤖 AI in Healthcare: Ready or not, AI will play a significant role in the future of healthcare. An intriguing example was 'Digital Twins'—imagine an AI tool using your information to anticipate your body's behavior if given a placebo, rapidly increasing the number of 'people' entered into a clinical trial. 🏀 Finally, checked off a personal bucket list item: attending an NBA game! For those who know me know I am a fan of sports and the team environment. What a great experience and a memorable night! In just a week, my initiation into the health sciences industry in Boston revealed an exciting future. Players in the industry continue to make breakthroughs in medicines, treatments, and innovative collaborations, transforming our approach to navigating this complicated yet critical field! #HealthMatch #HealthTech #CNS CNS Summit

Switzerland says 'yes' to the Climate and Innovation Act! 🌍🎉 "Swiss voters on Sunday supported a new climate bill aimed at combating the melting glaciers and requiring the country to become carbon neutral by 2050." An incredible statement, with a majority of Swiss voters agreeing to make Switzerland's 2050 net zero emissions goal legally binding! "A full 59.1% of voters back the new law, which will require Switzerland to slash its dependence on imported oil and gas and scale up the development of greener, more homegrown alternatives." Switzerland saw its glaciers have a record melting year in 2022, losing 6 % of their volume (2% would normally be considered extreme!). While this is definitely not just a Switzerland problem, it is a great example of how a government, with its citizens, can come together and commit to their climate goals. “When you have a clear objective, you can then put in place the necessary measures.” Green Party MP Céline Vara Read more --> https://lnkd.in/gXgXiPpN #Switzerland #Climate #Innovation #NetZero #ClimateAction #Technology

Did you know every day one million trees are cut down to make regular toilet paper? 🌳 or that toilets have saved more lives than any other modern invention? I recently learnt about this after a purchase from Who Gives A Crap. Who Gives A Crap makes toilet paper - but cool, sustainable, educational, recycled toilet paper... yes, it's a thing! This a super intriguing example of how even simple everyday items can be re-envisioned to have a more positive impact on our world, well done, Who Gives A Crap 👏 Do you know of other everyday products and brands we should be supporting? #Sustainability #SustainableSolutions #WhoGivesACrap #ToiletTalk

Last year, I arrived back in Australia on a working holiday visa. 🇦🇺 For those unfamiliar with working holiday visas, they can be quite restrictive in terms of the type of work you can do, and how long you can do it for. As a young professional, this was a big challenge for me because I wanted to continuously move forward and progress my career. With a lot of support around me, I decided to change my perspective and see this as a unique opportunity to work on a project that I believed in. I dedicated my time, and resources, and went out of my comfort zone to pursue it. Leading your own project can be both fun and demanding as there is added pressure to learn from your mistakes, challenge your perspectives, and stay positive. This has certainly been the case for me while working on the Teameup project. Teameup is an app built from an idea that I believed would be an asset in my own life. The simple goal of the app is to allow people to meet and connect with others through sports while supporting active lifestyles and improving our sense of community. With the app launched on the app stores in Australia, a major milestone was ticked off. 🎉 Time will tell the success of Teameup - but managing a mobile app built from an idea to launch is something that I am super proud of and appreciative of having the chance to do. #Teameup #SocialSportApp #FounderStories #Australia #FirstAppBuild

How do you make a #sport relevant when almost no one sees the sport live? The Ocean Race is one of the most impressive and intense races to occur, where sailing teams comprised of 5 members sail around the world with up to 35 continuous days at sea. These boats find themselves at earth's most remote spots, including Point Nemo (aka the earth's pole of inaccessibility), famously known where the sailors are closer to astronauts than to land. The Ocean Race happens every four years, taking around 6 months to complete - and for a race that is almost all off-shore with no in-person 'live sport', it is an interesting case study for how a sport has made itself relevant for fans across the globe. The simple answer is #communication. I mentioned the boats are teams of 5 - this is true, however, only 4 of those are sailors, with the 5th member being an onboard reporter. The onboard reporter can not touch a rope or help plan the route but focuses instead on capturing and putting all the action online. Reporting that concentrates on publishing daily videos and pushing social media updates has made this sailing event engaging and relevant, helping the event and sport become a worthwhile business investment for sponsors. Admittedly, the boats with the most engaging material are the ones that seem to have the best relationship between the onboard reporter and the sailing team - even so, for all reporters, this must be one of the hardest sports media jobs enduring extreme sailing conditions and all the comforts of home to capture the highs and lows of the race. So here's a big kudos to #TheOceanRace team, onboard reporters and teams that are currently sailing around the world and innovating new ways to bring the sport closer to #fans across the globe! If you haven't followed the race, I'd recommend checking it out as it truly is a special sporting event (even if you've never been a fan of sailing before!). Here's the latest video posted 6 hours ago where the boats recently passed Cape Horn and now heading towards the Leg 3 finish line at Itajaí, Brazil: https://lnkd.in/gWDD_tiH

Why I loved Figma while building an app. Something I learnt quickly in the app build is that while you may have what seems like your best version of the UI & UX designs, it will undoubtedly need adjustments once you start developing each screen and feature. Maybe this was also because it was my first time building an app from idea to fruition - but I loved this process of continuously trying to learn, improve and implement changes on the go with the development team because while you may love your designs heading into the development phase, it doesn't mean it can't be tweaked and improved on. This is where Figma stood out for me (of course the prototyping abilities, free subscription and cloud-based platform elements are great too!). Figma has the freedom to easily make design changes while front-end developers can extract the changes in real-time with the inspect and code output tools. A useful attribute when trying to work quickly and tick off tasks! What are some of your favourite #tools when working in the #innovation field? Also - did you know #Figma was acquired by #Adobe at the end of last year for US$20 Billion?! Extremely impressive, especially as it was only founded 10 years prior and officially launched to the public in 2016! #TipsWhileLearning #FirstAppBuild #Teameup #Figma

I am excited to share that the project I've been working on this past year is ready to go 🚀 From a simple idea on a plane to working with different team members on the UI, UX and then the development - it's been quite the learning curve (more on all of this soon)! This has been my first experience bringing an idea to life, and I am thrilled/relieved/nervous/happy/grateful to have been able to do this. 📌 If you want to keep up to date with the project, follow the Teameup page! Launching in #Australia on both Apple and Google Play stores 🎉 #Teameup #mobileapp #socialnetwork
An exciting moment getting both acceptance emails from Google Play and the Apple Store... coming to your phones soon! #mobileapplication #teameup #appstore #googleplaystore

Google 'Patagonia' today and you will find a statement that is hard to grasp the full significance of. “I was in Forbes magazine listed as a billionaire, which really, really pissed me off,” - Yvon Chouinard, Patagonia Prior to #Patagonia's first days, Yvon Chouinard started his first project in 1957 by making reusable climbing mechanisms that would ensure that nothing was left behind from people's outdoors adventures. Today, almost 50 years since the founding of Patagonia, Chouinard continues to lead through his actions by making his largest statement yet, "making the Earth [Patagonia's] only shareholder." As a fan of the #brand, I am excited for Patagonia to take this step - and as a #global #citizen, I am incredibly thankful. I recommend reading the article on NYTimes.com to find more great quotes from Yvon Chouinard, https://lnkd.in/ePCCfd-C
