HOW TO WEAR: THE EXPOSED MIDRIFF

It's seriously crazy that in the middle of winter I can still get away with a bare midriff and not freeze to death. It is currently a sunny 23C, which is as good as it gets in many places during the summertime, let alone wintertime (UK, I'm looking at you). Truth be told, I hardly ever find a bare midriff in public 'acceptable', though usually because they're sported by young unknowing teens. If possible, I'd like to make an exception to my 'No Belly Buttons in Public' rule. What can I say, once a rule breaker always a rule breaker?

A fusion of a high neckline and loosely draped pants contrasts the exposed midriff, and I'm all about contrasts. The hero in this outfit combination is without a doubt the printed 'Joanna' shirt, a completely unique piece finding its way into my closet thanks to the killer Aussie label August Street. The versatility of an oversized shirt is boundless, even one in a such daring print as this, hence why I own such a ridiculous collection (I'm talking five to a hanger). My first instinct when I pulled the shirt was to style it with a pair of leather skinnies and boots, however when I woke up to the sun shining bright I had an instant revelation to undo its buttons and set that midriff free. As my style develops, I find I'm constantly pushing myself to wear pieces in unexpected and unconventional ways. Oh the possibilities of an oversized boxy shirt!
