Spillern train station

Train station

Description

The railway station of the market town of Spillern, which was rebuilt in 2016 and opened in 2017, is barrier-free and safe. The construction of the structurally separate passenger tunnel means that it is no longer necessary to dangerously cross the tracks to reach the platforms, and the elimination of the former barrier system means that customers of Vienna's S3 and S4 rapid transit lines no longer have to wait unnecessarily.

The modern adapted stop was equipped with monitors, timetable information and any information about the route are thus directly available to the rail passengers. Further innovations are the Bike & Ride facility, which offers safe storage for bicycles, and the 2 electric charging stations.

Tip: There is also a nextbike rental station at the station. The bikes are available in Lower Austria from April to mid-November. More information can be found on the website https://www.nextbike.at/en/niederoesterreich/, or in the nextbike app.

City stroll

The specially signposted village walk in Spillern touches on the regionally nearby sights in the course of a leisurely circular route laid out by the municipality - past the golf course and the fire brigade and local history museum. Of course, there are plenty of culinary delights to be found - as well as the opportunity to indulge in a shopping spree or two.

It is also worth taking a short walk from the station along the Krumpenwasser to the impressive Greifenstein power station to the south - the second largest power station on the Danube.

History

In 1884, a mechanical signal box was built in Spillern to control the railway operations, as the construction of the safety installations made it possible to increase the speed of passage in the railway stations.
