While old Corvettes have never really captured the imagination of driving enthusiasts this side of the pond, the car really has made some technical strides over the years. It culminates in the new mid-engined C8, but earlier models also deserving of respect include the C5, which received technical input from a certain Norfolk-based manufacturer. PHer daniel-5zjw7 uses this interesting history to justify the opinion that his new daily driver (yes, daily), is really rather underappreciated in the world of sports cars. We agree.
The OP’s new addition, a 2000 model, is powered by a 5.7-litre LS1, a tough old block that has 350hp and 350lb ft of torque, enough to propel the 1,450kg machine to 60mph in 4.5 seconds and onto 170mph. That’s plenty fast enough and is twinned with a thumping V8 soundtrack, one made all the more dominating thanks to that folding rag top. And this car’s got a six-speed manual, too. What’s not to love?
While daniel-5zjw7’s new motor looks to be a good’un as is, he’s already set about making it absolutely mint. We’ll leave it to the OP to explain the process in more detail, but suffice it to say this is one left field sports car project worth keeping up to date with. We certainly can’t think of a much better way to drive out of lockdown than with an LS1-powered American drop-top.
