The bronze sculpture refers to the large number of citizens who earned their livelihood or an extra income in previous years through hard physical labor in the numerous limestone quarries in and around Gundersheim. The stone crusher with its caulking and crowbar is the work of the Alzeyer sculptor Volker Schäfer. The sculpture was financed by donations from the citizens.
