      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Troll doesn't rewrite the monster movie rulebooks -- but with mythology this rich and action this exciting, it doesn't have to.

      Audience Says

Troll's decent visual effects aren't enough of a reason to sit through its predictable story, cheesy dialogue, and uneven acting.

Noel Murray Los Angeles Times “Troll” succeeds by getting back to basics. Like way, way back — all the way to the Old Norse. Dec 16, 2022 Full Review Meagan Navarro Bloody Disgusting While light on narrative, it’s when director Roar Uthaug embraces the film's monster that Troll reveals its magic. Rated: 2.5/5 Dec 1, 2022 Full Review Lee Zumpe Tampa Bay Newspapers “Troll” is as much fun as any of the recent films in Legendary Pictures’ MonsterVerse. Oct 26, 2023 Full Review Aaron Phillips But Why Tho? A Geek Community With a perfect run time, some superb visuals, and a throughline of some brilliant mythology, Troll deserves to be watched. Rated: 7.5/10 Jan 4, 2023 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies That often dismissed and maligned word “fun” defines “Troll” in a nutshell. It’s an eye-popping genre flick that delivers exactly what you expect from it. Nothing more; nothing less. Rated: 4/5 Dec 29, 2022 Full Review Cory Woodroof 615 Film A goofier riff on 2014’s Godzilla, greatly in debt to the Roland Emmerich disaster textbook. Dec 17, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Pete A Cool idea and decent special effects. But the writing is so bad. The acting is bad. The dialog is bad. I said to my wife, “This would be really stupid if it wasn’t in Norwegian.” Good idea, bad execution. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/08/24 Full Review Tore Sergei M Not half-bad for a Norwegian monster-movie!! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/05/24 Full Review Ismael C Damn Troll hunters be looking different lately Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/09/24 Full Review Jacob O Troll was pretty cool. It's exactly what you expect it to be. Not going to blow your socks off or surprise you much but it was a decent throw on before you pass out type movie for those who do that. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/06/24 Full Review Kurtis E This is King Kong. Its Norwegian King Kong made of rocks. And that's certainly not a bad thing. The characters are fun, and the effects are amazing for what I assume is a smaller budget. The titular creature, like Kong, is sympathetic and whose violence and destruction are a byproduct of its curiosity and will to just be left alone. I didn't feel good with how they treated this man! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/03/24 Full Review Le D No takeaway, no real story. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/29/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
