Mariners Harbor teen accused of murder held without bail

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.-- The Mariners Harbor teen accused of fatally shooting a 19-year-old man in Stapleton last month was held without bail during his arraignment in Criminal Court Saturday.

Davon Tramun, 18, was charged with second-degree murder after allegedly shooting Tairiq Matthews in the head in front of a bodega near 487 Vanderbilt Ave. on June 30, police said.

According to a source, Tramun fired from outside a nearby nail salon at around 6:37 p.m.

"The incident occurred in broad daylight and part of it was caught on video," said the prosecutor during the arraignment.

EMS pronounced Matthews dead on the scene.

A 9mm shell casing was recovered from the scene, according to police.

The motive is unknown at this time, police said. However, a source told the Advance there was no dispute prior to the incident.

Tramun, of Continental Place, is also charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm, police said.

The defendant has seven prior arrests, including an attempted gang assault in the Bronx last year, officials said.

He is due back in court July 27.
