“Casque Rouge” is a deciduous tree grown for its foliage, flowers, and lovely form. The fern-like foliage emerges light green in spring, ages to dark green, then turns varying shades of yellow in autumn before falling. The foliage is complemented with pendulous clusters of lilac-pink flowers in late spring. It grows with an upright and somewhat broad habit to about 7 m tall and 6 m wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. It grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, semi-sheltered site, and is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and dry periods. “Casque Rouge” is commonly grown as a specimen, planted to border an entrance, used in avenue plantings, or included in a mixed planting where space affords.
