Even though the fights were planned, there was real animosity growing between the two wrestling giants. Goldberg openly discloses the strong emotions he held for his colleague in wrestling. Upon entering Vince McMahon's wrestling empire, Goldberg found Triple H to be well-established and wielding significant power. Triple H, known as one of the industry's leading heels and a strong champion, was resolute in his goal to stay at the top of the roster. Not surprisingly, Goldberg had strong feelings towards Triple H and even considered tearing his face off.
Goldberg first appeared in WWE in 2003 by impressively defeating The Rock, and continued to dominate until leaving in 2004. However, real-life hostility between Triple H and Goldberg simmered beneath the staged fight scenes. Following his discussion on Tim Green - Nothing Left Unspoken, Goldberg talked about the true conflict he had with Triple H before and after signing with WWE. He witnessed the origin narrative in WCW.
The fact that I didn’t get along with Paul Levesque [Triple H], which is Vince’s [McMahon] son-in-law, I think it had everything to do with it when I got there… I think a lot of that between Hunter and myself was real… We had an interaction when I was at WCW leading the charge in New York, at a press event… So I hurt myself, and I know some people that were friends that worked with me were talking to him when he was working at WWE.
Following Triple H's comments during their encounter, the WWE Hall of Famer also expressed his desire to rip his face off in real life.
And, he made a comment while I was at home, and I remember it like it was yesterday, and from that second he said I was tanking it or faking it or something, and I wasn’t there for the demise of WCW. How could I? So from then on, I wanted to rip his face off. So, we had a confrontation prior to me signing with the WWE. Ironically, we were represented by the same agent. So, it made the situation quite uncomfortable once I signed with the WWE.”
Following the end of his contract, Goldberg is not actively associated with the WWE, and it is unclear if he will ever participate in a retirement match. Given that fans will never forget his real-life feud with Triple H, it is unclear what fate has in store for Goldberg going forward.
