Heidi Exhibition – Her Footsteps are Heard

Hamamatsu Municipal Museum of Art
Finished
This exhibition, a completely original project of the Hamamatsu Museum of Art, is unique in that it reconstructs the value and appeal of the story of "Heidi" from the perspectives of both literature and animation. First, it introduces the life of the original author, Johanna Spyri, along with the turbulent historical background of her life, by displaying letters written by her, illustrations and drawings from the original and translated books, and other materials. Next, the exhibition compares the reception of "Heidi" in Japan and other countries through translations, films, picture books, and other works. It will then introduce the planning, interpretation of the original work, and ingenuity of the creators of the animated television series "Heidi, Girl of the Alps" using original drawings, layouts, storyboards, celluloid pictures, background pictures, and other production materials from the period to unravel the animation production.
