This is a fantastic interactive resource for children to learn about the Earth's physical geography with this world map. Use this map to help children get involved in learning to identify the different continents and countries around the world. It makes a really great addition to any lesson based around geography and the world map, but it can be used in any topic or subject relating to the different continents!
For extra understanding of lesson. Our teacher gave us smudged black n white. This one will go straight to display. Thank you
Hello prtmrk,
I'm glad you found this resource useful :)
Great resource.
Please could you make an alternative one with continets only but using colours used by Montessori maps: Africa - Green; Asia - Yellow; Europe - Red; North America - Orange; South America - Pink; Antarctica - White; Australia - Brown. Many thanks!
Hello Year2ESJ,
Thanks for your suggestion - I'll ask our design team to take a look and see if we can make this change for you :)

Hi there elclass4,
Thank you so much for letting us know about this issue! Our lovely resource creation team have amended the resource and the new version is now available to download.
This is helpful...however would it be possible to colour the continents the same across all of your continent resources?
Hello sharlo9517,
Thanks for contacting us today. I'm just going to send you a quick email about this so that I can get some extra details :)
Hi, is it possible to have this as an editable resource please? Thank you :)
Hi MissArianne,
Lovely idea :) I'll ask our design team to make an editable version :)
Hi there MissArianne,
We've made this resource for you and it will be available on our website soon! You can find it either as a new resource, or in the 'Alternative versions' box above.
Fantastic except that Australasia is not a continent. It is a region. The continent is Australia.
Hi, the colour is not according to the Montessori colours. Do you have one with North America as orange, South America as pink etc like what the person posted above says? Thank you 🙏
Hello rinoas,
Thank you for getting in touch - I'm sorry you couldn't find what you were looking for. I've taken a look and I think I've found it, but if this resource isn't suitable please get back in touch. https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-t-11584-world-map-with-names Enjoy the rest of your day :)
Why is the continent on this sheet called Australia but on your other resource where children have to label the continent it is called Australasia? The same bits are coloured in so why the different name?
Hi Moseleyrocks,
Thank you so much for getting in touch! It's lovely to hear from you :)
At Twinkl we have decided to go with Australia as the name for the continent - as you're aware there are a number of different acceptable names! If you could let me know which resource uses another name I can get this checked and, if necessary, corrected right away :)
good morning, would it be possible to have this in a larger version. simular to the giant hundred square spread out over three A3 sheets of paper please. it would be perfect for a maths development scheme we are running next year.
Hi missbrownclass4,
Thanks for your lovely comment! I can see this being useful - I'll ask our design team to make the update!
Hi there missbrownclass4,
Our lovely resource creation team have created this and emailed the new resource to you! It will also be available to download within 48 hours, and you can find it either as a new resource, or under 'Alternative versions' above. I hope you find it useful!
Once your class are more confident in their knowledge of the world map, this can make a great start to a bright and engaging display. Ask your children to produce some display work to go alongside this map to create an amazing gallery of all their hard work in this topic. They could produce posters advertising different locations around the world, or fact files about one of the seven continents included on the map!
What are the Continents and Oceans in the World?
There are 7 continents which include: North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Antarctica, Asia and Australasia.
There are 5 oceans which include: Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Arctic Ocean, Indian Ocean and the Southern Ocean.
Twinkl (Thailand) Tip: Try our lovely Seven Continents of the World Labelling Activity!
This map is an excellent visual aid for your class to see where the Earth's continents and oceans are. Using a visual tool like this one can help your children retain the knowledge they've learned in your lessons, by relating it to the shapes on the map. Keep a copy handy to help your students out if they're struggling to identify a continent or recall their names!
Put this map on display for geography lessons and create a fun activity for your class to help them remember where the 7 continents and 5 oceans are located. It works really well as part of classroom displays, or added into your students' notebooks as a handy reference tool. No matter how you choose to use it, it's really easy to print off time and time again, thanks to our speedy download and printing system.
You can also use the black and white version as an interactive world map for children, with students coloring in each continent or ocean as they learn about it. This is a great way to keep your children engaged while they learn about the seven continents and the world map, plus it can help them develop fine motor skills and creativity!
If you want to teach your students more about the continents, you can download this What are Continents for Kids PowerPoint.
One of the best ways to remember the names of the seven continents is by using a mnemonic, such as:
SEAN got three AAAs
SEAN represents South America, Europe, Asia, and North America, while AAA represents Africa, Australasia, and Antarctica!
