First mentioned in a document as "munichdorf" around the year 1300. However, its history goes back to the 10th century.

In 1141, it was assigned to the Baumgartenberg monastery by its founder Otto von Machland. The bailiwick was held by the respective owners of the Lordship of Ruttenstein, to whom a bailiff from the village community was responsible. Mönchdorf's pastoral care was provided by Königswiesen, which was already in contact with Waldhausen Monastery when it was founded in 1147. In 1399, the parish of Königswiesen - the monastery had already held the right of patronage - was incorporated (incorporated) into the Waldhausen monastery. The small branch church (today's presbytery - the chancel) and the fiedhof around the church were destroyed during the Hussite Wars. On 26 November 1434, the reconstructed branch church was reconsecrated by the then Auxiliary Bishop of Passau. In 1444, an altar was consecrated in honour of St. Catherine of Alexandria, who is also the patron saint of the parish.
