Product Details

Our best guess is that this is a George Bauer guitar from 1900-1910. With no markings we can never be sure and we have not been able to find another like it to back up our assumptions based on construction details. George Bauer was a Philadelphia luthier who made guitars and mandolins. George Bauer and SS Stewart (banjos) became partners in 1898 and Stewart died later that year. Bauer continued the partnership with Stewart’s sons until 1901, at which point the S. S. Stewart & Sons trademark went one way and George Bauer went another.

Spruce top and rosewood sides and back – with these inlays to the top this would have been a premium range guitar when sold and a v shaped mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard. The guitar really is in great condition and sounds as loud and as clear as any quality made parlour guitar from over 100 years ago.

The guitar has clearly had work done over the years – the bridge and saddle have been replaced (probably to allow guitar to take steel strings) and a K&N mini western pickup has been installed.

The guitar comes with a vintage fibreboard case and will be shipped within the UK using fully insured, 48 hour, courier service. Buyers from outside the UK should contact Vintage Rare & Retro Guitars for a shipping quotation prior to purchasing.
