Nötsch

It was the light, that the painters were fascinated by at the bottom of the Dobratsch mountain.

So much so that they formed a circle of painters, an impressionistic art centre, the "Nötscher Circle". The artists were none other than the internationally recognized painters Sebastian Isepp, Anton Mahringer, Franz Wiegele and Anton Colig. Even today, the Wiegele bakery and mill (the oldest active mill in southern Carinthia) the art creation of these painters and their sphere of influence.

With a visit to the museum or a guided cultural walk; you will follow in the footsteps of the Nötscher Painters’ circle. Are there other day trips you ask? How about a carriage ride through the Schütt? Or going on an adventurous hike with a Nature Park Ranger? Adventurers can paddle along the Gail in a canoe. Can I go rafting you wonder? Of course! Also very exciting is a flyover by plane over the Nötsch and the area around the Dobratsch.
For those who love it a bit more serene: More than 50 kilometres of marked hiking trails, cycling and riding trails as well as the best fishing spots are waiting. For refreshments, head to the mountain adventure pool or one of the nearby swimming lakes. The Nötscher locals know how to celebrate, and they prove it with the Josefimarkt on 19th March every year, the Gailtaler Church day with the custom of "Kufenstechen" in the summer (a form of jousting on horse back) as well as the big Polenta Festival in October.
