Cuidados de la Cucaracha Dubia (Bláptica Dubia)

HOW TO CARE FOR AND MAINTAIN YOUR DUBIAS AT HOME

Maintenance container

dubia cockroach

The box or container where we will have our dubia cockroaches must be at least twice as big as the container we send you from the farm with them and with holes in the lid for good ventilation. A tall plastic box can be used without a lid if we leave enough height between the egg cups and the top, about 15cm is enough, it is very important that the box is smooth and clean so that the Blapticas cannot climb. If you wish, for greater safety, you can put 2-5 cm of Vaseline on the upper edge of the box to prevent any leaks, but it is not really necessary since dubias do not scale smooth surfaces well. It is very important that condensation does not occur inside of the container.

Feeding

As a base food you can use wheat bran with oats, as well as fruits and vegetables so that they are nourished and hydrated with them. It is very important to feed them with good things because their nutrients will be passed on to our animals. Regarding fruits and vegetables, the remaining ones should be removed the next day.

Hydration

We can put water crystals or gel water, as well as a napkin or cotton with water so that they can always hydrate. We should not add water since they would drown in it. Additionally, the water must be separated from its base food so that it does not spoil.

Temperature

Dubias require at least 22-30 degrees to stay in good condition. If where you live you do not have these temperatures, you can place them near your reptile's heater to take advantage of that heat. Be careful: the box where you have the dubias must have a hot zone and a colder zone so that they can regulate themselves, since very low or high temperatures can cause mortality among the Blapticas.

Cleaning

Remove old fruit/vegetable scraps and dead animals once a week.
