Artificial sun over the village of Viganella

in #technologies6 years ago

In the north of Italy, 130 kilometers from Milan, lies the tiny village of Viganella. Local residents call it "Siberia". The thing is that the village is at the very bottom of the mountain valley, therefore, from November 11 to February 2, the sun does not penetrate here. Naturally, it was not very popular with the population of Viganella to live for several months without sunlight, and about 200 people live here. People were thinking: is it possible to create an artificial sun, with the help of which it will be possible to illuminate the village in the winter? Someone came up with the idea of installing on a mountain, at an altitude of 870 meters, a mirror cloth with an area of 40 square meters, which will reflect the sun's rays and send them to Viganella.

In December 2006, on the mountain above Viganella, a reflective surface was constructed, representing a steel sheet measuring five to eight meters in weight, more than a ton. This design is equipped with a special computer control, thanks to which, the position of the sun is monitored and the mirror turns so that the sun's rays get to the village evenly.

That's how the artificial sun changed the life of the whole village.
