You look around, yes, this view makes you speechless. The Grossglockner High Alpine Road was opened in the year 1935 and has been regarded as an absolute highlight of our region since then. The 48 km long road not only offers driving enjoyment, it is also lined by culinary and cultural treats. Pull over – get out – fly on.

If you want to enjoy the view of Austria’s highest mountain, Grossglockner, and take in the breathtaking panorama from 3000 metres up in all its glory, a trip on the Grossglockner High Alpine Road is just the ticket for you. There you can open yourself up to the unparalleled panorama and simply enjoy. Nary a visitor doesn’t head for the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe. From there you have unobstructed views of Grossglockner, which with its 3,798 metres towers over the largest glacier in the East Alps, the 9-kilometre-long Pasterze. Snow-covered Johannisberg Mountain completes the alpine panorama. The hiking trail into Gamsgrube, right into the heart of the special nature reserve of Hohe Tauern National Park, allows unique views and spotting rare alpine animals such as the majestic ibex. On the elevation named after Habsburg emperor Franz Joseph a visitor centre awaits with exhibitions and numerous attractions.

The various museums, exhibitions, infopoints and nature trails are ideal for all those who are curious and have a spirit for discovery. Families with children can learn many interesting facts about the construction of the road and surrounding nature on the four themed playgrounds. For motorised alpinists, the Grossglockner High Alpine Road is an absolute highlight: In addition to the unparalleled driving enjoyment, various international events also beckon. Motorcyclists enjoy the excellent road surface and safe driving training sessions make for even more fun on the road.
